From November 1, 2025-Decmeber 1, 2025, Anhinga Press will hold an open reading period for U.S. poets with the purpose of discovering full-length (48-100 words) works of traditional poetry, Visual Poetry (VISPO) and Visual-hybrid works. We are looking to discover collaborations as well as traditional and hybrid works of poetry. Selected manuscripts (one or more) will receive publication and a standard contract with Anhinga. The fee for this open reading period is $28 USD and can be paid through submittable. 

All manuscripts are read carefully by Anhinga Directors. 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES (2025)

  • November 1 to December 1, 2025
  • Submit via our Submittable page ONLY
  • Reading and administration fee for each manuscript is $28
  • Manuscripts must be 48-100 pages, excluding front matter. They may be single- or double-spaced.
  • Do not put your name on your manuscript. Submittable will add your name to your file.
  • We will respond to your manuscript(s) with a notice of our decision. We will not ghost you. If you haven’t heard from us in over three months feel free to reach out to us.

Poems previously published in journals and anthologies should be accompanied by an acknowledgments page. Authors may submit multiple manuscripts; each will require a reading fee. Previously submitted manuscripts and manuscripts under consideration by other publishers are also eligible. Please notify us as soon as possible if your manuscript is accepted by another press.

Anhinga Press is excited to announce our first Anhinga Visual Poetry Series Award. The competition is open to all U.S poets with an original poetry chapbook in English. The winner of the prize will receive $200 and 25 copies of their chapbook.. Submissions will be open from November 1, 2025-December 1, 2025. The fee to submit is $15 and can be paid through submittable. 

Open to all poets writing in English in the U.S.

  • Please submit 18-24 pages of original poetry. Individual poems may have been previously published.
  • Please submit your manuscript without your name on it. Simultaneous submissions are fine. Please notify.
  • The judges are the Anhinga editors.
  • Winner receives: $200 and 25 copies of their chapbook.
  • Entry: $15 on Submittable only.
  • Submission Deadline: Dec 1, 2025

 Submit up to 75 high-resolution JPEG images of your visual poetry for expert curation. This package includes the selection and sequencing of 50 standout images, along with a thoughtfully written note by Kristine Snodgrass or Karla Van Vliet, a leading voice in visual poetics. Also included is a personalized phone consultation (w Kristine), offering guidance on suitable visual poetry presses and journals for publication. Ideal for artists preparing a manuscript or looking to refine their portfolio for submission. Please allow 8-10 weeks for detailed feedback.
